Profile Information

Why are you interested in this network?
I want to explore how an online network can create conversations that can aid me in creating really amazing learning environments in the workplace.

I want to document through my blog the process, challenges and learning from a 'real' world SKIL 2 project that I'm involved in through 2008.
How do you like to learn?
In a kind of serendipity way. I would spend a lot of time foraging online for information.

I love reading and have a wide range of interests that fuel my curiousity.

My brother Marc also provides me with heaps of sites to explore and many challenging and stimulating email chats.

I also love wide ranging conversations with interesting and value driven people.

I go and play in the chaos and complexity and then patterns form for me from all the information, research and conversations.

I also love to learn from my clients as they question, challenge and ruminate on my ideas - and their own.
How do you deal with change?
Sometimes well and sometimes not so well. It depends.

Some of the changes that have been external have shaken me because I wasn't expecting them. You know the ones - you're going along in your 'normal' life and BANG - change.

I find that I don't tend to panic too much. I let myself have time to feel - whatever ... fear, pain, anger, excitement, confusion - and then I plan and act. Or the other way around - act, plan and feel.

I also tend to create a lot of change for myself.

I run a consultancy so I never know who my clients will be. I've moved a lot in my life and now I'm exploring a change - how to live for years and years in one place.

I also would draw on both my own resilience and the support of friends when change occurs.

I write a number of blogs and they give me the space to ruminate.
What experience have you had with learning technologies & social media?
No formal training but a huge passion for information about them.

About a year ago I developed my first blog and now have about 4 - although Lizbiz is the one I post on the most.

I created a LinkedIn profile but don't really use it.

I search online all the time for my work and for fun.

I created SKIL2 and my learning curve is HUGE.

I started this social network.
How can we create really enjoyable learning experiences?
create lots of different ways for people to learn.

be prepared to be flexible if your facilitating a learning experience

see learning as a collaborative - curious experience

go in and have some fun

link learning to experience

let people tell their stories before you bombard them with theories

in the workplace link learning to a work project

have chocolates in learning spaces
Anything else you'd like to add about yourself?
Love champagne, my own company, great conversations (usually with other people!), reading, and being curious.
Do you run websites or blogs that you want to let us know about?

Quick Update from Liz - May 13 2008

It's sunny and beautiful here in Ballinamore and I'm very tempted to go out and play.

For those of you that don't live in Ireland - you have no idea how much we treasure our sunny days - they are liquid gold. And - we had a crappy wet summer in 2007 which was followed by a ve… Continue

Network Size- from the small is beautiful to - really big

I'd call our SKIL2 network a little gem. Small but beautifully formed.

What we lack in size -we make up in quality.

For me - it feels like a safe space to try out my own SKIL2 learning.

I also need to wander out - in real and virtual time - and see what other peo… Continue

And then there was Paris

I've been looking at the different open source (OS) learning management systems (LMS) - or - virtual learning environments (it seems different countries use different names) for the SKIL2 platform.

(Note to self - develop a list of all these new acronyms.)

Basically,… Continue
